You’re going to see a lot of lists over the next couple of months if you’re into fantasy baseball. And you’re probably going to look at almost all of them because we’re all a bunch of fantasy baseball nerds. We also all want that little edge…that hidden gem…the guy that’ll make us look like a genius.
Well, geniuses, by and large, look like dorks. Most of them are ugly. Also, there’s too much attention and too many stats available for anyone to have an edge. Not a real edge, anyway. We’ve all got the same information and read the same sites and use the same projection systems. It’s all luck. There is no innovation. Every list is vapor….
EXCEPT THIS ONE!
This is the position review you want. This is the one you knew you needed all along but had no idea it existed. It’s different than all the others because it’s pretty much the same.
BUT BETTER!
Catchers Who Are Good
William Contreras
Catchers Who Might Be Good
Adley Rutchsman(not sure how to spell his last name) - might jump up to the ‘good’ category if he doesn’t play bad
Cal Raleigh - cuz dingers and lots of ABs
Yainer Diaz - good power one year, good average the next…we’ll see where it goes but you might get average power and a low batting average
Shea Langoliers - he’s got a chance to hit .230 with several dingers and that’s all it takes to get noticed at the catcher position
Catchers In Decline
Sal Perez - it won’t last forever, but it was a good run
JT Realmuto - everyone says he was hurt last year and there’s a bounceback coming…sorry, but old guys get hurt and a contract year is not the fountain of youth
Willson Contreras - remember when he was the good brother? now he’s the hurt brother
Will Smith - he keeps getting worse and getting fewer ABs and hitting lower in the order
Catchers Who Will Show Up on “Sleeper” Lists
Francisco Alvarez - he hits dingers like Cal, but Cal is better
Joey Bart - I thought about putting him in the ‘might be good’ category, but this is sort of the same thing but don’t tell anyone that
Bo Naylor - he’s splitting time with a guy who’s not good and he’s Canadian
Gabriel Moreno and Keibert Ruiz - they’re the same, but hit from opposite sides of the plate….they’re both pudgy, though, I think
Logan O’Hoppe - a lot of people are pinning their hoppes on him this year even though he burned them last year
Catchers Who Meh Show Up On Your Roster Because You Have To Fill That Spot
Sean Murphy - he was good for a few games but now he’s over 30 and will forever split time with someone else
Ryan Jeffers - he looks like he should hit dingers but he probably won’t hit many
Danny Jansen - he wears that weird helmet that covers his jaw…I’d probably wear that, too
Tyler Stephenson - he’s so thankful the Reds load up on MIs and not catchers…I don’t think it’s necessarily an endorsement of his skills, though

Another amazing article
