Newsradio wasn’t very good, but I wanted it to be good. I watched it as if it was good. It should’ve been good. But it really wasn’t very good. I remember a lot of the episodes. There was the episode in which the building was on fire and Phil Hartman was going to lead people to safety down the stairs. He was stopped by Dave Foley but ol’ Phil wouldn’t listen and wouldn’t let his followers listen while exclaiming, “The devil mixes his lies with the truth, people.” It was more true than funny. Profound, really. I pondered quickly the statement before returning to pretending the show was funny.
Watching clips of Katt Williams on Shannon Sharp’s podcast(is it still a podcast when it’s on video?") brought Phil Hartman’s line to mind. Katt Williams would drop “truth” about other celebrities, naming names, even, and talk about how 2024 was the year of lies being exposed and then he would go on to tell obvious lies about his own life. Is that what irony is?
Now, I’m not saying Katt Williams is the devil. I do, however, think he’s on the same team as those he claimed to expose. I’m not sure what tactic this would be called. The mixing lies with the truth method, I guess? Is that a famous one? Doesn’t matter if it’s famous, really. It’s effective. Very effective.
The people who believe the stuff they want to believe because they already think it’s true can say that Katt Williams is telling the truth, but he’s a little crazy. The people that don’t want to believe what he’s saying about their favorite celebrities or their favorite industry don’t have to believe it because he was obviously lying about his own life. So, lies were exposed, but the vessel was unreliable. And nothing really changes.
I think Katt is just another plant and I also think he was revealing the truth about how the entertainment industry is run. He’ll get propped up as a hero, but also seen as a bit of a fool. And he reveals all that stuff on the podcast of a guy getting propped up because he souled out in the same way as those getting exposed. Pretty meta.
What’s it mean? Not much, really. It probably means “they” are about done with Kevin Hart and Ludacris, maybe. It means Shannon Sharp is being placed in the position to take over when Stephen A has worn out his usefulness. It means Katt will expand his fanbase and exposure a little bit and probably got a direct deposit that he can’t pass on to his kids because it came with strings.
And now we’ll wait for the next unlikely hero to emerge…
